Foster Care Kids

A hidden minority

Kids in foster care are a hidden minority.
They are a hidden minority amongst dominant people-groups
and they are a hidden minority among recognizable minorities.

Per the internet, some 600,000 US kids hit the system each year
with about 390,000 in-place children each year.

I call them 'kids in foster care', not 'foster kids'.
The term 'foster kids' implies a blame on the kids.
Few kids are there by their own doing.

I grew up in rural Iowa and our neighbors, who lived 1/2 mile to the north,
did foster care for girls, when I was younger. We were chums.

One sad fact seems to be that ethnic minorities
have a higher percentage of kids in foster care than white people.

Kids in foster care are functionally fatherless.
Kids in foster care are functionally motherless.
Those kids need to be in foster care because their families have failed them so pitifully.
Some kids are in foster care unnecessarily, via official misjudgments and some prejudices.

fatherless kids in foster care

While I have a section devoted to fatherlessness,
I want to put a laser-focus on fatherlessness as a factor in foster care.
Think of how little foster care would be needed if biodads fulfilled their duties.
And a lot of mothers wouldn't fail - if the fathers were there fulfilling their duties.

So...

and there is a special section about foster care on the FatherlessMale.com website.
