ADDICTION

The lie behind the addiction

This piece is not for the addicts, but for their casualties, so victims can understand.
Their victims become minorities who withdraw from life, having to focus their lives
on both shielding and often enabling the addict.
And this goes for any type of addiction, drugs, alcohol, gambling, domestic violence,
chronic unsafe driving habits, etc.

My theory:
Though body chemistry and brain chemistry can be involved in any form of addiction,
the greatest factor in addictions is the mindset ..."I DESERVE!"

I DESERVE"... justifies
>  the taking of drugs, and the crimes committed to get the drugs.
>  stealing instead of working.
>  the physical abuse of others, When a man can say "You made me do this..."
or  "...If you hadn't done that..."  he is saying "I DESERVE TO BEAT YOU!."
(and if you take the beating, you are agreeing with him).
>   the constant stealing from others. I heard of a gas station owner who manipulated
the gas pump computers to overcharge customers, making him millions.
>   likewise, drug dealers who dilute their product to raise their profit margin.
>   spending the rent money at the strip club, then leaving the family homeless,
     expecting relatives to help.
>   gambling the house away, then killing the spouse for the insurance money.

All of these behaviors require an, 'I DESERVE!'  mindset that I daresay creates addictions
out of what most people wouldn't touch or wouldn't overuse.
